Reflex have been busy successfully delivering security and fire systems in partnership with Concorde BGW Group for the Coach House redevelopment at the Swinton Estate which recently featured in the BBC2 series Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby.
The Coach House conversion contains new additional rooms within the luxury Swinton Park hotel, standing next to the grade2 listed Swinton Castle and is surrounded by 20,000-acre Yorkshire countryside.
The Challenge
Despite the lockdown measures, Swinton Estate have continued with their ambitious expansion plans. Reflex were chosen to design and install both a new Fire Detection and IP CCTV systems for the redevelopment of the Coach House facilities and accommodation.
Using the latest generation CCTV surveillance cameras, Reflex designed the security system to provide optimum coverage in both internal and external areas of the building providing security and safeguarding for both guests & staff with the added benefit of also helping with operational efficiencies.
As with any hospitality business; guest safety is paramount. Fire detection system designs are driven by compliance and comprehensive coverage in a building of this nature is a must. The fire detection system was designed to an L1 category specification which is the highest level for protection of life. Under our BAFE SP203 accreditation, we also have to take into consideration false alarm management from design and through to completion.
Delivering these systems on a prestigious estate and taking into account the history and heritage of the buildings, Reflex ensured that both fire detection and security system designs minimised the aesthetic impact. In order to achieve this, we used high performance neutral coloured external compact camera types. In addition, we ensured that all cabling infrastructure for both fire and CCTV was discreetly concealed with no external cabling or containment.
The Solution
For the CCTV system. Reflex installed a mixture of the latest high-definition IP cameras using external bullet cameras with integrated IR to ensure high levels of performance, especially at night where ambient light was minimal. These were coupled with internal domes monitoring all entry/exit points and communal areas whilst ensuring the fields of view did not impact on guest’s privacy. The structured network utilised POE switches in the main data cabinet with all images being recorded on a networked video recorder (NVR). The NVR was then connected onto the Clients local area network so that images could be viewed remotely in the main hotel building as well as the ability for authorised staff to view on mobile devices if required.
For the fire detection system, an Addressable Advanced fire alarm panel and Hochiki devices were proposed and installed to fall in line with the existing sitewide detection to uphold continuity. The fire alarm system was then fully interfaced into the door hold open devices and the staff pager system. As a fully BAFE accredited company; the system was fully commissioned and completed to the British Standard BS5839-1
