Spire Healthcare is the second largest provider of private healthcare in the UK with 39 existing hospitals. Reflex worked with them to provide security and life safety systems including fire detection, access control, intruder alarm and CCTV for their new Orthopaedic facility in Manchester.

The Challenge

The hospital is the latest of several projects for Spire that required us to deliver a latest generation CCTV system and an IP Access Control system to allow full control over entry authorisation plus a fully compliant fire detection system. All three systems were required to link to an existing hospital building.

The Solution

Reflex installed a fully addressable Gent Fire Detection system throughout this new facility to meet with strict hospital policies and meeting the requirements of BS5839-1 and HTM 05-03 Pt B.  Visual alarms were also introduced into more sensitive areas to meet with current standards for hospital environments.

The complete fire solution involved our commissioning of new and existing systems to incorporate complex cause and effects programming for the ongoing needs of the group.

Internal and external network cameras provide perimeter surveillance and coverage of key points for security, safety and building management needs. High resolution IP Fish Eye cameras were used in all common areas which helped to reduce the overall number of devices needed. Fish eye cameras incorporate de warping technology to allow images to be presented as normal camera views through 360 degrees without blind spots.

An electronic card Access Control system was also provided to allow authorised users access to specific locations at specific times. This was designed with central management for both staff and other card holders across both the existing and new hospital buildings.

Reflex continue to provide professional engineering service for the ongoing needs of the Manchester hospital and Orthopaedic facility including comprehensive service support and delivery of the maintenance.
