Reflex provided auditable access control as well as delivering management information and general security upgrades for the building generally – all in good time for the Barbican’s major re-launch in spring 2011.

The Challenge

The York Barbican is managed by SMG (UK) Ltd, one of the world’s largest international venue operators. The prestige theatre is owned by City of York Council and re-opened in spring 2011 after a major £2m investment. This included a £1.5m refurbishment of the famous and much- loved venue, enhanced with dedicated meeting rooms, a new box office area and improved public and back of house spaces.

As part of the capital investment program, there was a real need for an overall and all-encompassing security and site technology review. A solution was sought that would deliver a high level of performance in the management of public areas, provide auditable access control as well as delivering management information and general security upgrades for the building generally; all in good time for the Barbican’s major re-launch in spring 2011.

The Solution

Utilising previous experience and expertise gained in some of the UK’s leading ventures, Reflex was able to put together an overall ‘turnkey’ solution for Barbican operator SMG. Reflex designed a custom package of site-wide technologies to manage day-to-day operational processes for the Barbican generally, as well as control and monitor all the public areas, ensuring the safety and security of the building, visitors and staff. This has seen the latest in site system installed, bringing the venue up to the modern standards desired. The emphasis of Reflex’s involvement on this contract centered on it’s extensive knowledge of the sector, and its ability to partner with the appropriate manufacturers and the client to deliver a seamless solution.
