How Barnsley FC upgraded their fire detection system to protect staff and visitors at Oakwell Stadium

The Customer

arnsley Football Club is a professional football club based in South Yorkshire, England, playing at Oakwell Stadium, which has a capacity of 23,000. 23,000. The stadium hosts fans, staff and visitors on match days and during events, making safety a top priority. 

The Challenge

When Barnsley Football Club looked to renew the fire detection system at Oakwell Stadium, they needed to replace the existing system to fulfil ground safety requirements.

The nature of the risk, operational challenges and the needs of the larger stakeholder group meant that the challenges were numerous. The club also required a system with multiple controls and the ability to interface with third-party equipment to meet all compliance standards.

The Solution

Reflex Systems worked with Barnsley FC and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to deliver a state-of-the-art fire detection system for Oakwell Stadium.

For this project, we:

  • Worked in partnership with the football club and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

  • Designed, installed and commissioned a fire system to meet all operational needs

  • Installed over 1500 fire devices across multiple control panels

  • Integrated multiple systems to ensure compliance with relevant standards.

The Payoff

The fire safety system now operates as a single, unified platform, providing reliable coverage across all areas of Oakwell Stadium. Operators can adjust settings during events to maintain safety while reducing false alarms.
