Asda Property Services

The Challenge

London-based Asda Property Holdings’ principal activities are UK-wide property investment and development.  The Wheatley Centre is one such strategic site for the property group. With a total area of 224,250 sq feet, it is home to many leading brands including Boots; Staples; Matalan; Argos; Netto; Gala Bingo; TK Max; JJB Sports and Focus Do It All, among others.  The challenge was to create a safer and more secure environment for both tenants and visitors, with the use of a high specification CCTV system, designed and installed to integrate with the town centre CCTV scheme and its fibre communications network – as well as an existing dual location Synectics control system.

The Solution

Asda Property Services recognised Reflex’s experience of design and implementation of such schemes, including fibre optic transmission networks – particularly in urban and public spaces.  Reflex was awarded the contract to supply a complete end-to-end solution to include product selection, engineering and installation and also the technology interface into a city-wide fibre optic network; the system was commissioned to work in conjunction with police and town centre control rooms. The end result achieved the provision for a high standard camera surveillance system for the development, whilst also providing police and town centre operators with enhanced video surveillance of adjacent urban areas.

Many public sector organisations choose to use Reflex to deliver solutions. These range from stand alone security applications utilising video surveillance, access control, intruder & perimeter detection and distributed audio, to integrated systems adopting the latest technologies – to add value and provide a significant contribution to site and building management. The types of challenge facing regeneration project managers and local authority planning officers are ubiquitous across the UK and partnership is the

key to success as with any business relationship. Two such major regeneration projects involved contracts at Manchester Markets – New Smithfield and Harpurhey. Both are major wholesale markets and operate almost 24 hrs, 7 days a week. Manchester City Council were keen to elect for a single end to end source of supply to support the regeneration projects. Site wide video surveillance systems were required to enhance the effectiveness of security, site operations, logistics and health and safety provision. This would involve the replacement of existing equipment and infrastructure and would ultimately need to integrate with other technologies and be capable of being operated and interrogated from an established Greater Manchester remote monitoring facility.
