Crowne Plaza Hotel – Glasgow

The Challenge

Crowne Plaza Glasgow is a major landmark hotel overlooking the River Clyde, with a direct link to the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC).  It is located directly opposite the Glasgow Science Centre, the new BBC and STV Headquarters and within walking distance of the Tall Ship visitor attraction. The hotel was awarded Glasgow Hotel of the Year 2007 and Scottish Conference Hotel 2007, having 283 bedrooms and suites across 15 floors and also extensive meeting and banqueting facilities the hotel serves both the business and leisure market.  As part of a major investment and refurbishment program, the hotel’s management were looking to upgrade the Life Safety voice evacuation system throughout all areas of the hotel, and also upgrade the existing CCTV system throughout both internal and external areas.

The Solution

In partnership with Baldwin Boxall, Reflex designed and installed a new voice evacuation system whilst integrating existing field devices where appropriate.  Due to the size of the venue, the system is powered and controlled from two networked locations, which now comply fully with current British Standards. Reflex also incorporated a distributed music and PA system to all banqueting, bars and public areas with the ability to control and select different music styles on demand.  As part of the new video surveillance strategy, a total of 38 cameras were installed into front of house, car parking and non-public areas. Reflex combined both the existing analogue CCTV and latest IP network cameras on a single technology platform for control and recording purposes allowing multiple viewing stations of high resolution live and archived images.  Reflex introduced a combination of existing Panasonic equipment and used a combination of Bosch and Honeywell new systems products, to achieve the best offering in terms of the technology solution, reliability and overall value.
